Feels like home

I awoke my first morninig in Cambodia to the sounds of the birds that had built their home in the windowframe of the room Luka5 and I slept in. The house is beautiful. The floor is tiled with glossed ceramic such that the objects in the room are reflected as in a mirror. All walls are white and the ceilings of each of the three stories are 15 feet. Sparcely decorated, the house accentuates simplicity, lending an peaceful atmosphere. Outside my 3rd story window is a courtyard with a flag pole cemented into three concentric steps on which handful of military men are loitering. School children start a sing-song chant from a building on the opposite side of the courtyard. The cool morning breeze sweeps through the house as it does the branches of the cocoanut palms that haphazardly surround the courtyard. A nearby car honks. The rooster, whose incessant crows roused me from my slumber a few minutes before, is again heard against the subtle backdrop of the activity of the city. I love this place.
